Prospect Type Overview

Priority Engine prospects are separated into three distinct prospect types to help you better focus your efforts on the prospects that are most active and qualified.

TechTarget Leads

Active in your market AND downloaded your content

TechTarget Lead is an opt-in TechTarget member who has directly downloaded sponsored content from your TechTarget lead generation campaign.

To appear in Priority Engine, TechTarget Leads have to have been active on relevant topics, engaged directly with your sponsored content, and are individuals within ranked accounts you have influenced. Priority Engine includes TechTarget Leads for up to 90 days following their last engagement with you. TechTarget Leads do not count towards your export cap.

Active Prospects

Active in your market, but have not engaged with you

An Active Prospect is an opt-in TechTarget member who has conducted topically relevant research across the TechTarget network.  All Priority Engine Active Prospects are guaranteed to have active opt-in email addresses, contactable phone numbers, work for verified companies, and must have been recently active in your market segment.

Additional Prospects

Not active in your market, but fit ideal job functions at active accounts

TechTarget has partnered with other third-party contact providers to deliver the most relevant third-party contacts directly in Priority Engine. Additional Prospects are selected based on specific demographic criteria, including job role, function, and seniority as well as their predicted decision-making influence within the market segment.

Important Note: Additional Prospects are not opted-in.

Including TechTarget Leads in all marketing nurture campaigns and direct outbound sales efforts is highly recommended. TechTarget Leads should be familiar with your brand, but could potentially be researching multiple vendors and solutions at the same time. Be prepared to offer additional content to help with their research journey, including technical white papers and vendor comparison guides.

FAQ: A lead delivered in my Lead Report doesn't show up in Priority Engine. Why?

Leads delivered through a Lead Report may not always appear in Priority Engine. These discrepancies are normal and can happen for two reasons:

  1. The lead downloaded your content after the Priority Engine database refreshed on Sunday evening. You will get the lead delivered in your weekly Lead Report, but you will not see it appear in Priority Engine until the following week.
  2. An individual has downloaded your content but the account is not showing strong activity. Priority Engine detects activity on an account level. Lead Reports detect activity on an individual level. It is not uncommon for Lead Reports to detect an individual lead while Priority Engine does not detect the same amount of activity across the entire account.

    • Example: John Smith from Bank of America downloads your white paper on cloud storage best practices. No one else at Bank of America is researching topics or vendors related to cloud storage. John Smith will appear on your Lead Report as an individual lead since he is engaging with you, but Bank of America will not show in Priority Engine as an active account.

We highly recommend that Lead Reports and Priority Engine be used in tandem. Each tool provides a different insight into the accounts and contacts that are active in your market. By monitoring accounts and prospects through Priority Engine, and leads through Lead Reports, you have the most thorough view of your active market.

What is an Active Prospect?

A Priority Engine Active Prospect is an opt-in TechTarget member who has conducted topically relevant research across the TechTarget network.  All Priority Engine Active Prospects are guaranteed to have active opt-in email addresses, contactable phone numbers, work for verified companies, and must have been recently active in your market segment.

What is an Additional Prospect?

TechTarget has partnered with trusted third-party contact providers to supplement our opt-in, active prospects with additional contacts on the buying team that have relevant job functions and roles directly into Priority Engine. This helps you identify new prospects at active accounts, increasing your reach, exposing senior decision-makers, and identifying the entire buying team.

Due to the fact that activity has not been detected on the TechTarget network for additional prospects, insights about them are limited to account-level insights. Research Areas and Entry Points will also reflect account-level insights for these contacts.

Targeting Additional Prospects will help you reach senior decision-makers and topically relevant job roles at ranked accounts. While they may not be actively researching core or related technology topics, they are potential decision-makers based on their seniority and relationship to the research team.

Please note: Additional Prospects are not opted-in
